Overview
- Peru’s geophysical institute reported a magnitude 4.0 quake in Ica near San Juan in Nasca province at about 75 km depth, and local authorities reported no injuries or damage.
- The IGP also confirmed a magnitude 4.0 event east of Tarapoto in San Martín at 37 km depth that produced light shaking rated II–III on the Mercalli scale and caused no damage.
- A separate magnitude 4.0 quake struck near Calango in Cañete in the Lima region at 90 km depth, with light perceived intensity and no reported impacts to people or buildings.
- Mexico’s national seismology service logged several ~4.0 quakes in Guerrero and Chiapas, including near Acapulco, San Marcos, Arriaga, Ciudad Hidalgo and Cintalapa, which did not trigger the SASMEX alert or prompt damage reports.
- Officials in both countries urged basic readiness such as keeping an emergency kit and knowing safe zones, noting these light, deeper events are common along the Pacific Ring of Fire and are often felt by some people without harming structures.
