LIG Defense & Aerospace Forms U.S. Subsidiary to Court Navy Rocket Sales

The new unit gives the South Korean weapons maker a platform to pursue U.S. Navy procurement following a 2024 test of its Bigung rocket.

Overview

  • LIG Defense & Aerospace, which announced the move Wednesday, set up LIG Defense U.S. Inc. to expand in the American defense market.
  • The subsidiary will be the company’s base for partnerships, technology cooperation, and entry into U.S. programs with a focus on working with the U.S. Navy.
  • The company is promoting Bigung, a 2.75-inch guided rocket system, for naval use in the United States after it completed Foreign Comparative Testing during the RIMPAC exercise in July 2024.
  • Foreign Comparative Testing is a U.S. program that evaluates allied systems for potential use, which signals feasibility but does not create a purchase contract.
  • LIG named retired U.S. Navy Vice Admiral Rich Brown as a senior adviser to guide outreach, and the U.S. arm is its first overseas subsidiary after earlier sales offices in Europe, Colombia, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
