Overview
- Lidl GB said Thursday it will invest £600 million to open more than 50 stores over the next 12 months, a plan it says will add close to 2,000 jobs.
- The first wave is due this summer at Abbots Langley near Watford, Warrington in Cheshire, and Thornbury in Gloucestershire.
- Later this month the retailer will brief more than 150 property partners as it seeks new freehold, leasehold and long-leasehold sites across Great Britain.
- To support the rollout, Lidl is expanding its logistics network, with a new Leeds warehouse expected to begin operations in 2027.
- The chain, which runs more than 1,000 British stores and employs over 35,000 people, says new sites will bring more low-price options and support UK suppliers that provide around two-thirds of its products.
