LG Opens U.S. Pre-Orders for Micro RGB Evo TVs Starting at $5,000

The launch signals a premium push into RGB LED tech built for wider color and very large screens.

Overview

  • LG began U.S. pre-orders Wednesday for its first Micro RGB evo models in 75, 86 and 100 inches with entry pricing around $5,000.
  • Micro RGB uses separate red, green and blue LEDs instead of white or blue backlights, and LG claims full DCI-P3, BT.2020 and Adobe RGB coverage with thousands of local dimming zones.
  • Early lab results from Tom’s Guide measured Hisense’s UR9 at about 93% of the BT.2020 gamut, highlighting the strong color reach of RGB LED designs.
  • Brands are focusing on large, high-end flagships, and only Samsung and Hisense currently sell 65-inch top-tier RGB LED sets, which gives them an advantage at the most popular size.
  • Tom’s Guide reports the 75-inch Samsung R95H undercuts LG and Hisense by $500, while LG’s 100-inch price is $1,000 lower than Hisense’s, and SamMobile lists LG’s 86- and 100-inch models at $7,000 and $8,000 with gaming features up to 165Hz.
