Overview
- Daniel Washbourne, 40, has been charged with escaping lawful custody and is due before Bristol Magistrates’ Court today after his arrest in Bristol city centre around 1:30am on January 7.
- Matthew Armstrong, 35, was detained near Henley-in-Arden train station before midday on January 7 after a member of the public reported a sighting, and he has been moved to the Avon and Somerset area in custody.
- Armstrong was also arrested on suspicion of a December 31 robbery near HMP Leyhill in which a man allegedly forced entry to a home, threatened occupants, and stole a phone and cash.
- A third man, Aaron Thomas, 39, was arrested in Bristol on January 3, charged with escaping lawful custody, and appeared in court on January 5; he is due at Bristol Crown Court in February.
- Police traced movements through CCTV and public reports, including images from Bristol on January 3–4, as the Ministry of Justice orders a review into how the men absconded from category D HMP Leyhill.
