Lexus Revives LFA as Electric Halo Car With 2027 Target

The prototype shown at Goodwood represents Lexus’s bid to recreate the original LFA’s emotional driving feel in an EV that could serve as a testbed for Toyota’s next battery tech.

Overview

  • A camouflaged, fully functional LFA prototype ran at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, giving the closest view yet of the production-ready shape.
  • Lexus designer Shogo Kasamatsu described the production car as “almost finished” and the company is targeting a 2027 launch, though final details remain unconfirmed.
  • The new LFA will be battery-electric rather than using the original V10, and it shares a lightweight aluminium architecture and many structural components with Toyota’s GR GT and GR GT3.
  • Lexus plans to recreate the LFA’s character through engineered sounds, targeted vibrations and an immersive cockpit instead of copying an internal‑combustion engine soundtrack.
  • Toyota has suggested the LFA could be an early application for its all‑solid‑state batteries (targeted around 2028), but weight, exact powertrain specs and limited production capacity are still open questions.
