Lewis Moody Sets 500-Mile June Ride to Support MND Research

The effort backs the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation founded by Doddie Weir.

Overview

  • Lewis Moody, who revealed an MND diagnosis in October, announced Wednesday a seven-day, 500-mile ride starting June 14 in Newcastle and ending June 20 at Twickenham with delivery of the Premiership final match ball.
  • Former teammates Jonny Wilkinson, Mike Tindall, Phil Vickery, Martin Corry and Ben Kay are set to join, along with Moody’s teenage sons, Dylan and Ethan.
  • Proceeds will go to the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, which says it has committed more than £23.5 million to research and over £2 million in direct support for people with MND.
  • Moody says a second specialist, Professor Martin Turner, gave him a sense of hope about progress in MND, and he has enrolled in a clinical trial under Turner.
  • The route begins at Kingston Park in Newcastle and takes in Leicester, Bath and Bracknell before finishing at Twickenham, with Moody planning to manage fatigue as doctors advise steady exercise over extreme exertion.
