Leopard Tranquilised and Captured at Ghaziabad School After Hours-Long Search

Relocation to the Shivalik range follows veterinary checks.

Overview

  • CCTV first recorded the animal around 5:15 am, and the school alerted forest officials at roughly 7:50–8:30 am.
  • Police and forest teams evacuated the campus, postponed exams, cordoned the area, deployed drones and traps, and summoned a tranquillising unit from Meerut.
  • Officials found the leopard in a male washroom and drilled through a wall to gain a clear line of sight after attempts via a window proved difficult.
  • The animal was sedated with a single dart, caged for transport, and identified as a healthy male of about three years and roughly 75 kg.
  • No injuries were reported, the operation duration was reported between about three and seven-and-a-half hours, and release is planned in Saharanpur’s Shivalik forest range after medical clearance.
