Leonides Baez Identified in Times Square Stabbing as Police Hunt Three Suspects

Police say the late-night attack followed a dispute captured on nearby cameras.

Overview

  • The victim, identified by the NYPD as 39-year-old Leonides Baez of Worcester, Massachusetts, was attacked around 11:30 p.m. Monday outside Burger & Lobster on West 43rd Street near Broadway.
  • Officers found Baez with stab wounds to his torso and back and a slash to his face, and he was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
  • Detectives are searching for three men, at least one dressed in all black, who fled east on West 43rd Street, and police have not recovered the weapon.
  • Security cameras captured the preceding argument but not the stabbing, and investigators are asking for tips to Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS or crimestoppers.nypdonline.org.
  • The killing occurred in the Midtown South precinct, which has recorded multiple homicides this year even as officials report record-low citywide killings through April.
