Leon Salt Jailed 11 Years for Fatal Hit-and-Run as Courtney Taylor Given Suspended Term

Evidence included false plates, CCTV, DNA, plus a bid to burn the car.

Overview

  • Salt, 21, admitted causing the death of 57-year-old Christopher Deaville by dangerous driving and received an 11-year prison sentence with a 181-month driving ban.
  • Deaville was struck and killed on April 11 last year on Newcastle Lane in Penkhull after the stolen Mini Cooper left the correct side of the road while overtaking at speed.
  • Taylor, 28, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking and was given a 15-month term suspended for 18 months, a 12-month driving ban, and a rehabilitation activity requirement.
  • Prosecutors cited false licence plates bearing Taylor’s fingerprints, CCTV of her paying to fill a green jerry can, and DNA from the pair’s clothing matching DNA in the Mini.
  • The pair fled, changed clothes, discussed ditching a phone, attempted to return to torch the abandoned car, and then attended a police station on April 14 where they were arrested.
