Leon Cuts 244 Jobs as Administrators Close 22 Restaurants

A proposed CVA would allow the brand to restructure debts following three straight years of heavy losses.

Overview

  • Quantuma Advisory, appointed in December, says Leon now employs 573 people after the latest closures.
  • Confirmed shutdowns include sites at Notting Hill Gate in London, Brighton North Street and Manchester Piccadilly, among others.
  • Recent filings show losses of £12.5m in 2023, £8.3m in 2024 and about £10m in 2025 based on draft figures.
  • Administrators are seeking rent reductions from landlords and are redeploying staff where possible, with redundancy terms and a pathway to apply to Pret A Manger for those leaving.
  • Co-founder John Vincent reacquired the chain from Asda’s owner in October and has said the brand drifted from its core values while facing what he calls unsustainable taxes.
