LEGO Debuts SMART Play at CES With Playable Star Wars Takeover of the Las Vegas Sphere

Pre-orders open today for the first Star Wars All-In-One kits, signaling a March 1 launch for LEGO's sensor-enabled play system.

Overview

  • Sphere’s 580,000-square-foot Exosphere hosted a live, LEGO-themed trench-run game projected on its exterior, with guests piloting a life-size LEGO X-Wing cockpit outside the venue.
  • Sphere Studios produced the activation with the LEGO Group, Disney Consumer Products and Lucasfilm, and Sphere said it was the first to use its new Exosphere interactive technologies.
  • SMART Play centers on SMART Bricks, SMART Tags and SMART Minifigures that enable lights, sound effects and responsive behavior in physical builds.
  • LEGO formally unveiled the platform at CES with in-person demos of three initial LEGO Star Wars sets that integrate the new system.
  • The first wave is scheduled for March 1 in select markets, with pre-orders opening January 9 for All-In-One sets that include a SMART Brick with charger, at least one SMART Minifigure and a SMART Tag.
