LeFlore County Deputy Thomas ‘Walker’ LeMay Identified in Wister Ambush Killing

  • An ambush that erupted Sunday during a welfare check at a home along U.S. Highway 720 near Wister left a LeFlore County deputy dead and a Wister police officer wounded.
  • Authorities identified the fallen deputy as Thomas “Walker” LeMay, a father whose patrol vehicle is now set out at the county courthouse for public tributes.
  • The LeFlore County Sheriff’s Office, Wister Police Department, and the U.S. Forest Service responded, and a gunfight stretched for hours before a surrender around 4 p.m.
  • Investigators named 36-year-old Edgar Lara as the suspect, who was treated for minor injuries and booked into the LeFlore County Jail with formal charges pending.
  • OSBI said no other suspects are involved and declared the community safe while it examines why the shooting began.
