Leaked DLSS 5 Runtime Found in NBA 2K27 and Run by Modders in Control

The pre-release DLL exposes neural-rendering sliders and large model weights that have produced heavy frame-rate drops in early community tests and could affect how developers and GPUs must handle the feature.

Overview

  • Data miners discovered a 158 MB nvngx_dlssnr.dll in an early-access build of NBA 2K27 and modders extracted that file to test DLSS 5 outside an official release.
  • Hours after the DLL surfaced, RenoDX and other modders loaded the runtime into Remedy’s Control and Skyrim to show character-only neural rendering with multiple style and intensity sliders.
  • File analysis shows the DLL contains large neural weights—reported at about 148 million FP8 parameters—which helps explain why early tests on RTX 50-series hardware caused big performance hits at 4K.
  • Modder benchmarks reported the biggest drops, such as an RTX 5070 Ti falling from about 71 FPS to 35 FPS when neural rendering was applied to characters, though these figures come from an unofficial, likely unfinished build.
  • NVIDIA has not confirmed NBA 2K27 as a DLSS 5 launch title and says DLSS 5 will arrive this fall, so the leak offers an early look but not definitive final performance, integration, or game-compatibility details.
