Leak Suggests iOS 27 Will Drop Several Older iPhones

If true Apple would leave iPhone 11 models and the iPhone SE (2nd generation) on maintenance-only iOS 26.

Overview

  • Late-May reports, based on a Weibo post by tipster Instant Digital and cited by multiple outlets, published an alleged list of iOS 27-compatible devices that omits four existing models.
  • The leak names the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone SE (2nd generation) as excluded and indicates iOS 27 would require iPhone 12 or later to install the update.
  • Independent of install eligibility, several marquee iOS 27 features are reported to be limited by hardware and may require iPhone 15 Pro or newer to run Apple Intelligence and other advanced functions.
  • Apple is expected to formally preview iOS 27 and likely release a developer beta at WWDC on June 8, and Apple has not confirmed the leak’s compatibility claims.
  • If confirmed this would be the second year in a row Apple trims major-update support and affected users would need to upgrade hardware to get new features while remaining on iOS 26 only for security and bug fixes.
