LDS Church Publishes Instructional Videos Ahead of Sept. 6 Global Sunday Schedule Change

Leaders say the video-led, shorter second-hour meetings are meant to refocus worship on Jesus Christ and strengthen gospel learning at home.

Overview

  • The church posted four primary instructional videos on ChurchofJesusChrist.org and the Gospel Library app on Monday, Aug. 3 to prepare congregations for the new Sunday plan.
  • On Sunday, Aug. 30 all youth, children turning 12 in 2027, their parents and youth leaders will watch a 23-minute “For the Strength of Youth Curriculum” video to orient them to the updated youth materials.
  • The global rollout begins Sunday, Sept. 6 when, after sacrament meeting, everyone will attend a 25-minute Sunday School to watch two short videos on the Sabbath and Sunday School before youth move to classes and adults go to 25-minute Relief Society or elders quorum meetings.
  • The church released a multilingual implementation guide and nine supplemental panel videos from April discussions featuring general authorities to explain teaching expectations, meeting preparation and local leader options.
  • Officials say the changes are refinements to build lifelong discipleship; they could shift how teachers prepare, increase emphasis on home gospel study and change weekly routines in wards and branches worldwide.
