Overview
- A routine traffic stop turned violent when a passenger seized the car and dragged a Lawrence officer about two blocks after officers had removed the driver from the vehicle near East Haverhill and Kendall, police said Tuesday night.
- The officer was treated at the scene by Lawrence EMS and then rushed to a Boston-area hospital with what police described as serious injuries.
- Police say the driver’s license had been revoked and the passenger was wanted on two active arrest warrants before the passenger jumped into the driver’s seat and fled.
- Massachusetts State Police joined Lawrence detectives who photographed and measured the scene and reviewed surveillance video that has not been released to the public while leads are pursued.
- The Lawrence Police Department asked the public to keep the injured officer and the officer’s family in their thoughts and urged anyone with information to contact investigators as the search continues.
