Overview
- In a new profile in The New Yorker, Laurie Metcalf said she chose to keep working with Scott Rudin because he apologized, sought therapy, and pursued rehabilitation.
- She described a painful split with Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company after it refused to partner with Rudin on Little Bear Ridge Road.
- After that refusal, Metcalf threatened to quit Steppenwolf until it gave up the play’s Broadway rights, which cleared the transfer produced by Rudin and Barry Diller.
- Rudin has reentered Broadway with Little Bear Ridge Road and the current revival of Death of a Salesman, both starring Metcalf and directed by Joe Mantello.
- He withdrew from producing after 2021 reports detailed alleged abusive behavior, including thrown objects and an assistant injured by a slammed monitor, then told the New York Times in March 2025 that he had sought therapy and was taking responsibility.
