Latur Deploys Two Tankers and 63 Private Wells to Shore Up Rural Drinking Water

Officials say the short-term supply push aims to protect drinking-water access while fast-tracking recharge works under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

Overview

  • Two government tankers have been assigned to Jalkot tehsil to serve Shivaji Nagar Tanda, Waghmari Tanda and Gavhan village with four full trips a day to supply drinking water to the worst-hit communities.
  • The district has requisitioned 63 private wells and borewells for temporary use across tehsils with 27 in Ahmedpur, 15 in Ausa, 11 in Udgir, four each in Chakur and Jalkot and one each in Latur and Renapur to bolster local supplies.
  • District Collector Dr Bharat Bastewad reviewed water-supply schemes on Tuesday and ordered coordinated desilting, well recharging and daily monitoring of demand and availability to keep supplies running.
  • Separate municipal-safety failures have amplified local concern after two children drowned in an open wastewater pit in Bodhe Nagar, leading the Latur Municipal Corporation to suspend two employees and register a culpable-homicide case.
  • Officials say the emergency measures are temporary and that accelerating Jal Jeevan Mission projects, artificial recharge and regular inspections are the long-term steps to reduce repeated shortages and ease daily hardship for rural families who now rely on tankers and private borewells.
