Latam 787 Bound for New York Returns to São Paulo After Reported Technical Issue

The diversion highlights a second recent safety-related return at Brazil’s busiest international hub.

Overview

  • Latam flight LA8180 turned back to Guarulhos shortly after takeoff due to a reported technical problem on a Boeing 787-9.
  • Flight-tracking data show the jet circled over the Vale do Paraíba for about 1 hour 15 minutes, stayed within roughly 100 kilometers of the airport, climbed to about 4,000 meters, and remained below 650 km/h.
  • The aircraft landed safely with no injuries reported, passengers deplaned normally, and the jet was sent for maintenance.
  • Latam said it assisted customers and rebooked them on flight LA9510 scheduled for 4:30 p.m. the following day.
  • The airline did not specify the fault, and the event follows a March 30 Delta turbine failure that also led to a safe return to Guarulhos.
