Overview
- A fire broke out Wednesday evening at the Bartolini (BRT) sorting depot on via Don Giovanni Minzoni in Bovisa and spread through roughly 8,000 m², destroying about a dozen trailers and damaging other vehicles.
- Firefighters from Milan and reinforcements from Monza worked through the night to circumscribe the blaze and cool hotspots, with two containers still hot and posing a battery-explosion risk because they reportedly contained electric bicycles.
- The Procura di Milano, coordinated with the DDA, opened a precautionary investigation for incendio doloso and has placed the truck under seizure while Digos and fire investigators trace the package, sender and recipient data.
- Air-quality teams from Arpa Lombardia reported no critical pollutant levels in initial on-site readings but the Comune advised residents within a two-kilometre radius to keep windows closed and avoid outdoor activity pending further tests.
- BRT closed the Bovisa branch, rerouted shipments to nearby hubs and warned of delays, and trade unions have demanded urgent talks on worker safety, job protections and compensation as investigatory and recovery work continues.
