Overview
- A fire at Coombe Keynes, just south of Wool, broke out on Monday and involved three cut fields covering about four hectares.
- Firefighters from Wareham, Dorchester and Poole attended the scene with a peak of 27 personnel and additional 4x4 off-road appliances.
- Specialist kit including a water carrier and the Unimog from Wareham was deployed and multiple hose reel jets were used to surround the fire.
- Crews brought the blaze under control in just over an hour and remained on site dampening down until about 7pm, and there have been no reports of injuries or wider closures.
- The incident adds to a rise in open fires in Dorset and Wiltshire this summer, and the fire service urged the public to avoid disposable barbecues, open campfires and other actions that can spark blazes.
