Lando Norris Clinches First F1 Championship With Abu Dhabi Podium

The two-point margin capped McLaren’s return to the summit with a rare title double.

Overview

  • Max Verstappen won from pole in Abu Dhabi, but Norris’ third place sealed the title 423–421 after the Dutchman had clawed back a 104-point deficit.
  • Oscar Piastri finished second in the race and took third in the standings after leading much of the season.
  • McLaren secured the constructors’ championship for the first time since 1998 as Norris ended the year with seven wins to Verstappen’s eight.
  • Stewards penalised Yuki Tsunoda five seconds for forcing Norris off track; officials took no action against Norris for leaving the circuit.
  • McLaren maintained equal treatment between drivers, with Zak Brown saying he was ready to use team orders if required, and attention now turns to the sweeping 2026 rules reset.
