Lalduhoma Inaugurates 100-Metre ‘Faith Bridge’ Over Tlawng, Opening Key Mamit–Bairabi Link
The MoRTH-funded steel span replaces Bailey bridges to restore unrestricted traffic on the Aizawl–Lengpui–Mamit corridor.
Overview
- Built at a cost of Rs 43.83 crore under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the steel bridge measures 100 metres by 7.5 metres with 1.5-metre footpaths and is rated for loads up to 385 metric tons.
- The new structure replaces aging Bailey bridges, removing load limits and vehicle unloading to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow on the corridor.
- Connectivity gains include improved access to Lengpui Airport and NIT Mizoram, as well as overland routes toward Tripura and Bangladesh serving roughly 85,000 residents in Mamit district.
- Project delivery followed earlier setbacks, including a pulley failure during the December 2024 launch, a successful relaunch in April 2025, and completion of finishing works in September 2025 before the February 17 inauguration.
- Officials report strict quality assurance with on-site materials testing, Rourkela-fabricated steel components, specialised tension rods sourced from Thailand, and comprehensive load testing confirming full operational safety.
