LA28 Sets Visa Presale and August Public Ticket Drop After Selling 4 Million

The staged sales use a Visa-only presale with random time-slot allocation to limit bulk buying, preserve inventory for local buyers, raise ticket revenue for the Games.

Overview

  • Organizers said Wednesday that a Visa cardholder presale will run July 29–31 with winners notified July 27 and a second public drop will run Aug. 10–20 with time-slot emails sent Aug. 6–7.
  • Fans must register by July 22 to enter the Aug. 10–20 lottery and anyone chosen for the Visa presale will be excluded from the public drop time-slot draw.
  • LA28 reported more than 4 million tickets sold in the first release with nearly 75 percent bought by residents around Los Angeles and Oklahoma City and about 500,000 of the $28 tickets claimed.
  • Purchase limits remain in place to curb bulk buying: up to 12 Olympic event tickets per buyer with a four-ticket cap for ceremonies that counts toward the 12, plus up to 12 separate soccer tickets.
  • LA28 projects roughly $2.5 billion from ticketing and hospitality toward a $7.1 billion operations budget and says the staged sales and Visa partnership are central to meeting those revenue targets.
