L.A. Metro Opens First Stretch of Wilshire D Line, Linking Downtown to Beverly Hills

The four-mile, $10 billion phase offers faster access to Museum Row to test whether better service can pull riders from cars.

Overview

  • Passenger service began at 12:30 p.m. Friday, opening three Wilshire stations and triggering free rides systemwide through early Monday.
  • Trains run roughly 4 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. with 10-minute daytime intervals, and the Union StationLa Cienega trip takes about 20–21 minutes without transfers.
  • The first phase spans about four miles and restores rail service to Beverly Hills for the first time since 1954.
  • Metro launched a three-month pilot of daily station activations with coffee carts, weekly markets and cultural programs to draw riders and support nearby businesses.
  • Two more phases are tentatively slated for 2027 to add Beverly Hills and Century City stops and then reach UCLA and the VA, with experts warning sustained ridership will depend on frequency, reliability and safety.
