- Shanahan was involved in a head-on collision on July 14 in Palo Alto that left him with a concussion, a broken nose, a broken left hand, three broken ribs and more than 40 stitches to his face.
- The coach told reporters he reached down to retrieve a fallen phone, briefly took his eyes off the road and crossed the double yellow line before striking an oncoming SUV.
- Palo Alto police confirmed Shanahan’s account, said a clerical error had wrongly attributed blame in the state crash database and that the record is being corrected.
- Shanahan remains limited by concussion symptoms and other injuries, has briefly observed parts of training camp and will return to full duties only after medical clearance under a player-style concussion protocol.
