Kwizera Sets Record as Niyonkuru Wins Debut at Bengaluru World 10K

  • Rodrigue Kwizera of Burundi won the men’s title in 27:31 to break the event record during Sunday’s TCS World 10K in Bengaluru and earned USD 34,000 including a record bonus.
  • He moved clear after 8 km in hot conditions and finished ahead of Kenya’s Stanley Wafula Kibet and Gilbert Kipkosgei Kiprotich.
  • Rwanda’s Florence Niyonkuru claimed the women’s crown in 30:45 on her 10K debut, with Brenda Jepchirchir second in 30:59 and Chaltu Dida Diriba third in 31:03.
  • Harmanjot Singh led the Indian men in 29:13 to miss the Indian event record by one second and took the top domestic prize of INR 3,00,000.
  • Sanjivani Jadhav won the Indian women’s race in 35:01 for a third straight title and fifth overall at the event, which holds World Athletics Gold Label status in its 18th year.
