KTR Demands Murder Case and Arrests in Kummera Infant’s Death

BC groups seek an SIT over the case, reflecting mounting pressure on the Congress government.

Overview

  • BRS leader K. T. Rama Rao visited Kummera on Feb. 25, met the bereaved parents and called for immediate registration of murder charges against eight accused and their arrest.
  • He urged the state to grant ₹1 crore compensation to the family and said the accused should face the maximum punishment, including the death penalty if warranted.
  • The incident occurred on Feb. 18 at the Mallanna Swamy Jatara after an OBC family was allegedly denied temple entry, with the two-month-old dying of injuries on Feb. 21.
  • Rama Rao alleged government silence and political interference in the probe, and claimed a mob of about 20–25 people attacked the family and fatally injured the infant.
  • BC organisations, led by R. Krishnaiah, condemned the attack, demanded swift arrests and remand of the eight accused, and called for a Special Investigation Team to probe the case.
