KTM Parent Becomes Bajaj Mobility as 500 Job Cuts Are Announced in Overhaul

Management says the move is meant to streamline operations.

Overview

  • About 500 positions will be eliminated, mainly in salaried roles and middle management, with at least one management layer to be removed.
  • Affected employees will be notified starting in mid-February, with the reduction targeted for completion in the second half of 2026 and most cuts expected to occur through dismissals.
  • Roughly two-thirds of the reductions are expected in Austria, where support programs through the AMS and an industry foundation have places available for displaced staff.
  • Pierer Mobility AG was officially renamed Bajaj Mobility AG on January 13 and the legal seat was relocated to Mattighofen after Bajaj took control in 2025.
  • Bajaj provided about €800 million to rescue the group and now holds a reported 74.9% stake, as inventory was trimmed by roughly 100,000 bikes in 2025 and a reported hire of BMW’s Stephan Reiff as chief commercial officer is slated for April 2026.
