Kruger Park Tightens Access as Flood Risk Escalates

Rising river levels leave two southern camps without a route to Skukuza.

Overview

  • All roads from Lower Sabie to Skukuza and Satara are closed, and the only exit for Lower Sabie and Crocodile Bridge is the Crocodile River bridge, which could become impassable.
  • Crocodile Bridge Gate remains open under monitoring, Pafuri Gate stays closed, and Punda Maria Gate is shut, leaving Phalaborwa as the only northern access point.
  • The Border Management Authority has temporarily closed the Pafuri and Giriyondo border posts following persistent heavy rainfall and a Level 6 warning.
  • Precautionary actions include evacuations at Shingwedzi, Sirheni and Bateleur, with Talamati, Mbiyamiti and Roodewaal guests moved to Satara and Lower Sabie.
  • Visitors are urged to revise travel plans, use Kruger Gate or the R40 for Skukuza Airport access, and note Airlink’s added resources to support transfers.
