Kruger National Park Begins Phased Reopening After Floods

Safety checks keep several areas closed during the staged return of services.

Overview

  • Phalaborwa Gate reopened to day and overnight visitors on 26 January, with Phabeni permitting access from 27 January.
  • Bateleur Bush Camp reopens on 28 January, and northern shops return in stages, including Punda Maria (26 Jan), Shingwedzi and Mopani (28 Jan), and Letaba (30 Jan).
  • Mopani Rest Camp reopens on 30 January with limited amenities, as the restaurant and swimming pool remain closed.
  • Letaba and Shingwedzi rest camps and the Pafuri Border Post remain inaccessible, Biyamiti and Talamati bush camps stay closed, and Satara Rest Camp and the N’wanetsi Picnic Spot are open.
  • All gravel roads remain closed, Orpen Gate is restricted to overnight guests, emergency services and essential deliveries, visitors are urged not to remove barricades, travelers to Orpen are cautioned about reported protests on the R40 near Dwarsloop, and guests may use S3 and S4 to connect to Pretoriuskop and Skukuza.
