Overview
- The Seattle Kraken announced Tuesday they signed 19-year-old defenseman Alexis Bernier to a three-year entry-level contract worth $1,033,333 per year that begins in 2026–27.
- The timing locks in the 2024 third-round pick before the June 1 cutoff for teams to sign CHL draftees or risk losing them back to the draft.
- Bernier helped Chicoutimi win the QMJHL title after returning from a torn ACL, playing 20 playoff games with four goals and seven points, and he now heads to the Memorial Cup, the top junior tournament in Canada.
- He broke out in 2024–25 with Baie-Comeau with 14 goals and 46 points to earn QMJHL First All-Star honors before an injury limited him to 21 regular-season games this year.
- General manager Jason Botterill praised Bernier’s strong, physical style and size, and the right-shot blue-liner is expected to compete for an NHL roster spot at Kraken training camp after his junior season ends.
