KP Assembly Seeks In-Camera Briefing From Peshawar Corps Commander on Security Crisis

Lawmakers seek a military assessment to shape recommendations following ISPR’s report that KP suffered most of Pakistan’s 2025 terrorist incidents.

Overview

  • The Special Security Committee sent a Jan. 8 letter requesting an in-camera briefing from Headquarters XI Corps on ongoing operations in the merged districts.
  • The cross-party body has more than 40 members, including the leader of the house and the opposition, provincial ministers, and parliamentary leaders.
  • The committee has already received detailed briefings from the chief secretary, the additional chief secretary for interior and tribal affairs, and the KP inspector general of police.
  • ISPR reported that KP saw about 71% of the country’s 5,397 terrorist incidents in 2025, with 14,658 of 75,175 intelligence-based operations conducted in the province.
  • A recent roadside bomb in Tank that killed six police officers was cited as context for pursuing multi-dimensional responses beyond security operations.
