Korrika Crosses Gipuzkoa With Zarautz Stop Before Longer Saturday Leg

The rolling relay promotes Euskara through planned stops with community arts.

Overview

  • Korrika, a multi-day AEK relay to back the Basque language, is crossing Gipuzkoa this week on the second of three passes.
  • The opening traverse was a short overnight run that came in at Lizartza and left near Irún after moving through Ibarra, Amasa‑Villabona, Andoain, Urnieta, Hernani, Astigarraga and Oiartzun.
  • After returning via Irún, the route reaches Zarautz from Orio and then continues toward Getaria along the coastal road.
  • Organizers also plan the province’s longest stretch of the relay for Saturday, with more hours on the move inside Gipuzkoa.
  • Towns on the route have paired the run with local culture, from verse and theater to workshops and murals, with artists like Beatriz Egizabal, Marta Kaperotxipi, Piru and Goretti and dance groups Jalgi and Txeru taking part under the 'Euskara gara' theme.
