Konami Plans Annual Silent Hill Releases

The publisher says it will sustain yearly games by using outside teams and running multiple projects in parallel to broaden settings and storytelling.

Overview

  • Konami told GamesRadar at Gamescom on Wednesday that its aim is to publish a new Silent Hill game every year and that it currently has many unannounced projects in development.
  • The company will keep outsourcing main entries to external studios and already delivered near‑annual releases with the 2024 Silent Hill 2 remake and 2025 Silent Hill f, while Silent Hill: Townfall is set to arrive in late September 2026.
  • Konami says it will move Silent Hill stories beyond the original Maine town so developers can place games in different countries and use settings that suit their ideas, examples being Japan for Silent Hill f and Scotland for Townfall.
  • To meet an annual cadence Konami will run parallel projects across multiple teams and ask studios to tailor the IP to their strengths, a model meant to speed output while varying tone and gameplay.
  • Industry writers and fans warn that yearly releases risk franchise fatigue or quality slips unless Konami carefully curates projects, a concern that follows the shift away from the original in‑house Team Silent toward external developers and remakes such as Bloober Team’s PS1 reboot plan.
