Kolkata Metro to Begin 4 a.m. Services on Sunday for Yoga Day

Officials say the early trains are meant to carry large crowds to Red Road for the Prime Minister’s International Day of Yoga address.

Overview

  • Kolkata Metro will start services at 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 21, on the Blue, Green and Yellow corridors to handle a heavy morning demand.
  • The system will run a marked increase in trains on those corridors: Blue 214 services with 14–15 minute intervals, Green 173 services with 10–15 minute intervals, and Yellow 112 services running from 4:18 a.m. at 18–20 minute intervals.
  • No trains will operate on the Purple and Orange lines that morning, last-train departure times from terminal stations will not change, and normal Sunday schedules will resume after the morning peak.
  • Metro officials say the plan is aimed at moving attendees to Red Road where the Prime Minister will lead the Yoga Day event and at helping NEET‑UG candidates and their guardians reach exam centres.
  • The 4:00 a.m. start is described by officials as unprecedented in the metro’s roughly 42‑year history and will concentrate passenger flows at stations such as Park Street and Esplanade for pedestrian access to Red Road.
