Overview
- Kolkata Metro and RVNL completed girder-launching at Chingrighata in the early hours of Monday, May 25, 2026, and normal traffic on the EM Bypass was restored ahead of schedule.
- Engineers used two consecutive weekend night traffic blocks to place all segments between piers 317–319, finishing chemical pasting and most traction cabling with only curing remaining.
- With the viaduct gap closed, Metro Railway and RVNL plan immediate track-laying, signalling cable installation and phased trials before seeking statutory clearance from the commissioner of railway safety.
- Officials say the work removes the biggest bottleneck on the New Garia–Airport Orange Line and they are targeting commercial service to Sector V by December 2026 and the airport extension by late 2027 or early 2028.
