Kolkata BCA Student, 19, Arrested in Sarsuna Luxury-Flat Heist Traced Through Digital Trail

Investigators say an online purchase trail plus phone records led to the suspect, with most valuables now recovered.

Overview

  • Kolkata Police arrested Harshvardhan Shaw on allegations he robbed a neighbour’s flat in Sarsuna’s Tower 3 while the family was away between January 19 and 23.
  • Reports put the loss at over ₹1.5–2 crore in gold with about ₹26.5 lakh in cash, and police say they have recovered the electric saw, jewellery and most of the money.
  • Detectives reviewed more than 135 CCTV feeds, examined call detail records and mobile location data, and flagged an Amazon order for a money-counting machine and searches for an electric saw.
  • Police allege the suspect used a soap impression to duplicate a key, entered without forced entry, cut open a locker with an electric saw, and later tried to remove CCTV evidence.
  • Shaw, who lived in the same complex and knew the family, has been remanded to police custody as investigators probe possible accomplices and seek remaining loot.
