KNVB Shortlists Almere and Zeist for New National Football Campus

The association will run a dual-track review through next summer to weigh a move to Almere Pampus against expanding its constrained Zeist base.

Overview

  • The KNVB will conduct feasibility work with Almere while pursuing a formal follow-up with Zeist and the Province of Utrecht that would require a zoning change for expansion.
  • Barendrecht-Rotterdam was dropped after the Zuidelijk Randpark site was judged to have poor air quality and excessive noise.
  • Lelystad said talks have ended and congratulated Almere, noting Flevoland remains in contention through Almere.
  • Almere is being explored with a focus on the new Pampus district, which the KNVB views as offering phased growth, centrality and strong partner networks including the Flevoziekenhuis.
  • The search drew interest from 39 municipalities and was narrowed to three in March, with a final decision expected by next summer.
