KIO Data Centers Commits $200 Million for 2026 Expansion as QRO2 Phases Finish

The moves aim to scale capacity for cloud and AI workloads and to strengthen Querétaro’s role as Mexico’s main digital‑infrastructure hub.

Overview

  • KIO said Thursday that it completed phases two and three of QRO2 at its Mega Campus Querétaro, bringing that project’s investment to $170 million.
  • The company plans to deploy more than $200 million in 2026 across Mexico City, Monterrey and Querétaro to add capacity for cloud services, artificial intelligence and mission‑critical applications.
  • KIO is publicly evaluating a potential QRO3 build that could reach about 100 MW and require up to $1.3 billion of investment through 2030, a plan the company says is still under study and not yet final.
  • KIO reported that investments since I Squared Capital became a partner in 2022 exceed $900 million in Mexico and Latin America and projected its expansion could support more than 8,100 direct and indirect jobs by 2030.
  • Officials and company statements say Querétaro now concentrates a large share of Mexico’s data‑center capacity (reported around 72–80%), raising local grid and supply‑chain pressures even as the region attracts global cloud providers and regional demand.
