Overview
- Buckingham Palace confirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu will make a State Visit to the United Kingdom on March 18–19, hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle.
- The engagement will be the first UK State Visit by a Nigerian leader since 1989 and the first State Visit hosted by the King in 2026.
- Full arrangements and the detailed itinerary have not been finalized, with further information to be issued in due course; State Visits typically feature an official reception, a carriage procession and a state banquet.
- King Charles has longstanding ties with Nigeria, having visited the country four times between 1990 and 2018, and he previously met President Tinubu at COP28 in 2023 and at Buckingham Palace in September 2024.
- The visit follows deepening UK–Nigeria engagement, including a strategic partnership announced in late 2024 and government figures citing more than £8 billion in bilateral trade in the year to October 2024.
