King Charles Surprises Sandringham Parkrun for Second Year Ahead of World Cancer Day

The unannounced stop highlighted his backing for Move Against Cancer’s 5K Your Way initiative during his reduced treatment schedule.

Overview

  • The King cheered participants at the Sandringham event partnered with Move Against Cancer, standing with ambassador Sarah Byatt as runners passed their first-lap marker.
  • He attended as a spectator rather than running, returning to the same event for a second consecutive year ahead of World Cancer Day on 4 February.
  • The 5K Your Way program invites anyone affected by cancer to walk, jog, run, cheer or volunteer at more than 120 parkrun events on the last Saturday of each month.
  • Co‑founder Dr Lucy Gossage said the visit “means the world” and helps shift perceptions of living with cancer, echoing the King’s emphasis on exercise and early diagnosis.
  • The appearance came after the US Department of Justice released new Epstein files that renewed scrutiny of Prince Andrew, making this the King’s first public outing since those disclosures.
