King Charles Opens £73 Million Guinness Open Gate Brewery in Covent Garden

The project blends a public brewery experience with a southern UK hub for Diageo’s hospitality training.

Overview

  • Charles inaugurated the London venue, poured a pint praised as “perfect” by Guinness ambassador Leo Ravina, and unveiled a commemorative plaque.
  • The redevelopment houses a working microbrewery, visitor attraction, restaurants, retail spaces and an events venue at Old Brewer’s Yard.
  • Diageo says the site will create up to 250 jobs and serve as the southern base for its Learning for Life programme, where the King met graduates.
  • Master brewer Hollie Stephenson led a tour as the King sampled exclusive brews including a porter, a winter warmer and an apricot sour.
  • Unite members at Diageo’s Belfast packaging plant plan an eight-day strike from December 20 over pay that targets Guinness 0.0 canning, though the company says supply will not be affected.
