King Charles and Queen Camilla Mark Eden Project’s 25th With Sword-Cut Cake and Volunteering Drive

The visit promoted community volunteering through the Big Lunch and Big Help Out linked to Eden’s environmental mission.

Overview

  • At the Eden Project in St Austell on Tuesday, the King and Queen unveiled a plaque, toured the biomes, and tried to cut a commemorative cake with the Lord-Lieutenant’s sword.
  • They tested a new wooden marble run built from storm-felled Cornish timber and took home wooden marbles after the King joked about losing his marbles.
  • The couple helped rally support for the Big Lunch and the Big Help Out, set for June 5–8, which invites neighbors to share meals and sign up for local volunteer work.
  • After leaving Eden, the King pulled a pint of alcohol-free Proper Job at St Austell’s Market House as both royals met community groups at Holy Trinity Church.
  • Eden, created in a reclaimed clay pit in 2001, marked its 25th year with an eye on expanding its education and conservation work across communities.
