Overview
- Kia and Mexican officials confirmed a $649 million program to convert the Pesquería plant into a multienergy facility and begin EV3 assembly on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
- The investment will be executed between 2026 and 2028 and moves part of EV3 production from South Korea to Pesquería while adapting the factory to build electric and internal-combustion models on the same lines.
- Kia plans an initial domestic-content level of about 27 percent for the EV3 and aims to raise that share over time by integrating more local suppliers into the vehicle supply chain.
- The project includes phased hiring—around 500 new direct jobs in 2026 with roughly 1,500 additional direct positions planned between 2027 and 2030—and will supply domestic sales plus exports to Latin America and other markets.
- Part of the funds go to sustainability and infrastructure: a solar park starting at 2 MW with expansion to 8 MW by 2030, a second wastewater-reuse plant targeting about 1,050 cubic meters per day, and home and public charging support for EV adoption.
