Kia Sets India Roadmap: Syros EV in July 2026, New Sonet in 2027

The brand is leaning on local EVs alongside staged hybrids to reach more buyers in a price-sensitive market.

Overview

  • Kia’s 2026 investor presentation confirmed a July 2026 India debut for the Syros EV as the company’s second locally built electric model.
  • Reports across Indian auto outlets say the second-generation Sonet, codenamed QY2E, is slated for 2027 on Kia’s newer K1 platform.
  • At launch the new Sonet is expected to carry over today’s 1.2-litre petrol, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines, with a strong-hybrid variant under development for around 2028–2029.
  • Feature upgrades reported for the next Sonet include twin 12.3-inch displays and a camera‑and‑radar Level 2 driver-assistance suite, enabled by the K1 platform’s newer electronics that also support over‑the‑air updates and remote diagnostics.
  • Kia also confirmed hybrid versions of the Sorento SUV and Carnival MPV for India by 2030, signalling a dual track where an affordable EV like the Syros targets city buyers while hybrids serve customers who want better fuel economy without relying on chargers.
