Overview
- The provincial cabinet, meeting Friday for its 50th session, gave in-principle approval for a voluntary deduction of two days’ basic pay from Grade-20 and above officers.
- The Finance Department was told to design a consent process before any deductions begin, making the plan contingent on officer approval.
- Separately, Rs785 million was released to the Relief Department to buy boats and other gear to prepare for monsoon floods.
- Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi criticized recent federal fuel price hikes and said they are driving inflation and squeezing households.
- The cabinet also pushed longer-term fixes with a 60% cut to fuel use for official vehicles, abolition of 55 vacant posts to save Rs9 million a month, and in-principle approval for a new applied sciences university in the merged districts.
