KFF Poll Finds MAHA Voters Prioritize Lower Health Care Costs Over Signature Issues

The findings signal affordability could decide how MAHA supporters choose candidates in November.

Overview

  • KFF's national poll, released Wednesday, shows 42% of MAHA-aligned voters name lowering health care costs as their top health priority, and at least half say costs will have a major impact on turning out to vote and on party choice.
  • Across the full public, 61% say health costs will have a major impact on which party they back in the midterms, ranking the issue ahead of food safety and vaccine policy.
  • About four in ten adults say they support the MAHA movement, and among MAHA voters 52% identify as Republican, 29% as independent, and 15% as Democrat.
  • Large majorities want stronger rules on chemical additives in food and pesticides in agriculture, and confidence in the CDC, FDA, and EPA as well as trust in agricultural, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical companies remains low.
  • MAHA voters give the Trump administration and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. higher marks than other voters on food and vaccine policy, yet fewer than one-third strongly approve as recent moves on a weedkiller and a CDC nominee have strained parts of the movement.
