Overview
- Keychron announced ZGM, short for Zephyr Gaming Mouse, on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, positioning it as an open-source counterpart to keyboard projects like QMK and ZMK.
- The project is live on GitHub but is in an early setup phase with scaffolding and policy files visible while usable firmware is slated for an initial release in Q1 2027 for the company's G6 HE mouse.
- ZGM is built on the Zephyr real-time operating system and is designed as a modular, low-latency stack with separate layers for sensors, buttons, the scroll wheel and lighting to support wired and wireless mice.
- Keychron has published ZGM under the GNU General Public License so community contributors can fork, refine and port the code, though device-specific tuning will be required to run the firmware on other mice.
